World Cup-winning Boks return home
Newly-crowned world champions South Africa received a rapturous welcome when they arrived at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
The Springboks, who overcame England 15-6 in the World Cup final in Paris on Saturday night, were greeted by thousands of fans from all backgrounds.
Captain John Smit admitted that he was “overwhelmed” by the reception, while the country’s deputy sports minister, Gert Oosthuizen, told the squad: “You not only united us - you filled us with pride and made us winners.”
He added: “Let’s take this positive momentum forward and build, and do not forget that 2011 (South Africa host the World Cup) is around the corner.”

Dallaglio cool on Ashton future
Lawrence Dallaglio has refused to give his full backing to England coach Brian Ashton despite the England coach leading the team to the World Cup final.
Ashton has a rolling contract which comes up for review at the end of the year, and so far the Rugby Football Union’s director of elite rugby, Rob Andrew, has refused to make a decision until after a review of the World Cup campaign has been conducted.
“There are system changes that need to be made - whether that’s personnel is not my decision,” Dallaglio told BBC’s Inside Sport. “Everything isn’t rosy just because we got to a World Cup final.”
He added: “It’s been an interesting couple of weeks.

Ashton predicts bright future
Brian Ashton insisted England’s future is exciting as the nation’s hierarchy reflected on their World Cup campaign on Monday.
Coach Ashton is likely to land a lucrative new contract on the back of England’s staggering World Cup achievements, when they reached the final before losing 15-6 to South Africa.
And, following their return to England, he told a press conference at Twickenham: “I enjoy doing the job and nothing’s changed since I spoke to you (the press) last.”
He added: “I thoroughly enjoy doing the job and I think England have a pretty exciting future.”

Dickinson happy with decision
The video referee who disallowed Mark Cueto’s potentially-decisive try in the World Cup final insists he is “100% happy” with his decision.
Australian official Stuart Dickinson, who took an age to disallow England winger Cueto’s score in Saturday’s 15-6 defeat to South Africa, claims there is no doubt his call was correct.
Dickinson told the Daily Telegraph: “I’m 100% happy with the decision. His foot runs into touch by about 25 to 30 centimetres. Factually, it is indisputable.”
Dickinson revealed language problems with French TV producers led to the delay in making his decision, which was made despite him being unable to obtain freeze-frame pictures.
