A tub-thumping pre-match speech would make no difference to England’s hopes of retaining the World Cup at the expense of South Africa, according to legendary captain Martin Johnson.
“I won’t be giving (captain) Phil Vickery any advice as he prepares to lead England out,” said Johnson, writing on his Orange Rugby World Cup blog.
“I didn’t give a team talk before the 2003 final. Team talks are over-rated. These guys will have been talking all week about what needs to be done.”
Johnson has urged England to reproduce the “relentless pressure” they inflicted upon both Australia and France in their last two matches.
