Rugby World Cup Bets

Rugby betting is very popular and betting on the rugby world cup is no exception. With over 3 billion viewers of the previous World Cup held in 2003 - betting on the world 3rd biggest sporting event is sure to hot up as the tournament approaches kick-off on the 7th September.

We have a look at some of the popular rugby betting markets on offer and how these rugby world cup bets actually work using practical examples.

Popular Rugby World Cup Bets

Handicap Betting:

We’ll give one team a start (a handicap). You predict who’ll win when the handicap is added to the final score. For example, Scotland might get a 14 point start at Twickenham. If England win the match 20-12, the final score on the handicap is 20-26. England win the match; Scotland win on the handicap.

80 Minutes Match Betting:

No Handicap to worry about here. Just predict who’ll win the match in 80 minutes. Or back the draw at 18/1 or bigger if you’re predicting a tight tussle.

Winning Margin Betting:

New Zealand by 1-5; Wales by 21-25? Your task is to predict who’ll win, and by how big a margin. We’ve made it easier by bracketing the potential winning margins into bands of five points.

Double Result Betting:

You need the leader at half-time, and the winner after 80 minutes to land this bet. But beware of the draw here – there’s usually a good chance they’ll be level at the break!

First or Last Try Scorer Betting:

Great fun this bet. Just predict which player will score the first or last try of the match, and if you do you’re sure of a great return. The favourite here is often as big as 10/1. It’s the Rugby Union version of the Grand National!

Total Points:

We’ll have a guess on how many points will be scored in a given match (and that’s all it ever is!). You predict whether we’re too high or too low. Or get a 7/1 return if you think we’re spot-on!

Team To Score First Try:

Fancy one team to get off to a flying start? Simply predict which of the two teams will score the first try of the match.

Team To Score First:

Which side will be the first to trouble the scorer? Simply predict which team will score the first points of the match.

First Scoring Play:

Predict which team will score the first points of the match and how they will score them – penalty kick, drop goal or try.

Total Team Points:

Similar to the ‘Total Points’ market but this time we’ll have a guess at how many points each team will score in the match. You predict whether we’re too high or too low, or get 7/1 if you think we’re spot-on!

Total Match Tries:

We’ll suggest how many tries we think there will be in a match, you can then bet ‘Under’ or ‘Over’ that number.
